The Turkish Standards Institution (TSE) and the British Standards Institution (BSI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in order to strengthen standardization activities between Türkiye and the UK. Regarding the memorandum, TSE President Mahmut Sami Şahin said, “Our institution leads the countries in its own geography and other world countries with its growing sphere of influence abroad, international accreditation, and experience. With the memorandum of understanding we signed, we will increase the competitiveness of our country and facilitate international trade. We will continue our standardization and conformity assessment activities as an internationally preferred institution.”
TSE, Türkiye's largest and one of the world's leading conformity assessment bodies, has added a new one to its collaborations in different countries. The Memorandum of Understanding on the development of cooperation between TSE and BSI in the field of standardization was signed in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where the General Assembly Meeting of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was held. The signatures of the memorandum were signed by Mahmut Sami Şahin, President of the Turkish Standards Institution, and General Director of the British Standards Institution, Dr. Scott Steedman.
Sharing of Information
With the signatures, exchange of views and information sharing between TSE and BSI regarding the standardization activities and programs of Türkiye and England will be encouraged. Both institutions will work together to develop and promote standards.
TSE and BSI, which will develop their technical experts with trainings, will exchange ideas about national standardization activities and programs. They will exchange views on the activities, studies and programs of international and regional standardization organizations, especially the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
Working Together for Climate Change
TSE and BSI, which will facilitate dialogues between Türkiye and UK experts, will establish bilateral relations, including mutual information exchange and joint initiatives, to promote cooperation.
The two institutions that will conduct research in their fields and organize mutual meetings; They will take action to develop international standards supporting the London Declaration and to take climate change into account.

What is the London Declaration?
124 members of ISO, including TSE, together with their stakeholders and partners, had declared to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations Call for Adaptation and Resilience Action. According to the declaration announced last year; ISO will develop the Action Plan and Measurement Framework detailing the reporting mechanism, which will encourage the effective assessment of climate change and transformations through international standards.
